South Street has two venues, our Main Theatre & the Studio - both of which are perfect for small performances, workshops, rehearsals, parties, conferences and staff training. We regularly host events including music, theatre, stand up comedy, live literature and children's theatre.
You should receive your e-tickets by email about a week before the show, please show these on your phone or print-out on the way in. Please check your inbox and contact the Box Office on boxoffice@reading.gov.uk if it's not there - don't forget to check Spam and Junk folders too! You can also download your e-tickets from your Reading Arts account by logging in to the website.
If you have a booking but have not received your e-tickets by the day of the show, please see a member of staff on arrival and we will print your tickets off for you at the Box Office.
We're on South Street, as you might have guessed! The building can be found on the south side of Reading Town Centre, 5 minutes walk from The Oracle Riverside, on the corner of South Street and East Street. Our address is South Street Arts Centre, 21 South Street, Reading RG1 4QU.
The Main Entrance is in the centre of the front of the building, underneath the word 'Employers' carved into the stone above the door. This is from when the building was used as a Labour Exchange!
More info available on the How To Find Us page
There is on street parking along South Street, which is free to Blue Badge holders, and after 8pm in the evenings for everyone else (please check signage). Additional parking can be found at Queen's Road Car Park (RG1 4AR) less than 5 minutes walk away.
The bar is usually open 1 hour before the show start time.
We always have a guest beer on tap alongside Double-Barrelled's Parka and Ding, plus a range of bottled & canned beers, wine & soft drinks, and artisanal gins from Berkshire Botanicals. We do not have a kitchen so no meals are served, but we do have bar snacks available including nuts, crisps and ice cream.
Please note only food and drink purchased from us may be consumed on the premises, and we can currently only accept payment by card.
We serve our drinks in reusable plastic cups that you are welcome to take into the show with you. Occasionally we find our lovely cups in the bin! Please do not throw these away when you're finished, but return them to the Bar. We wash and reuse them, in an attempt to be more environmentally friendly. Please help us by returning your cups to the Bar!
We strive to make South Street a safe and welcoming place for everyone. To help us do that, there are a few things we ask of you. Please put your phones on silent and do not use them during the performance, as it can be distracting for others. There is no recording or photography permitted during the show, and of course, heckling, disruptive behaviour or violence will not be tolerated. By the same token, if you are disturbed, upset or worried by a fellow audience member's behaviour at any time, please tell one of our staff members as soon as possible.
We are committed to making South Street welcome to everyone. We will always endeavour to support all our patrons to access and enjoy our events. Below are some links to give you more information to about the accessibility of our venue and our Access List.
